Tour Funding:

Hello everyone,

So as many of our Sellaband believers know, we are heading to Europe this summer, and we sent an e-mail proposing a new plan to help with some of the touring costs. After careful consideration, we have decided not to launch another campaign at this time (as you have all given us so much already). What we have decided to do instead, is to kick in our own money, to raise funds on our own, and to also offer some incentives to those of you who wanted to help us out. This way, you get to pick what you like, and how much you can afford to donate. We received only positive feedback from so many of you, and for that we are so very grateful. To learn more about this, please click here.

Hamilton Life Feature:

We would like Linda Rourke, the host of Hamilton Life, and also the lovely reporter Jackie Vandinther for putting together this wonderful little piece.

We appear at 10:26 minutes into the video.

Thank-you so much to Kori Pop, The Artbar, and everyone who came out last night. It was such a fun night! You support means so much!! xoxo

Hamilton Music Notes:

Hamilton Music Notes By Ric Taylor

“…Compelled to get the music out there, Wells and company went to the fans to fund recordings and now find they have to schedule some dates this summer in Europe to accommodate fan demand. Not bad for a band still relatively based in the Greater Hamilton Area.“I cannot express how absolutely wonderful this is,” beams Wells on the bands new international fans. “We owe these people so much. Everything we do now, we do with them in mind. We push ourselves to be the absolute best that we can be for them.“I think anyone who is playing gigs and recording albums has a goal of reaching people who enjoy listening to the music,” adds Wells. “So very basically put, we just want our music to reach ears. Everything that we do has that basic goal in mind. If we put out the best product that we can muster, or play the best show that we can play, it’s all for the people who enjoy listening to us. It’s our thank-you to them for allowing us to do this…”

The Sound of Confusion:

Hailing from Toronto and the surrounding areas are folk-pop band Ophelia Syndrome who’ve recently released new album ‘All Things Forgotten’. Taken from it is sweet free tune ‘Passing Time’ which combines a delicate, soulful vocal with strings, twinkling keys and understated production. It’s a welcome change from all the hideously overproduced pop that’s clogging up mainstream radio space.

Thank-you so much to Sound of Confusion!!

100 Mile Microphone

Thank-you to Tom from 100 Mile Microphone:

Ophelia Syndrome has a fresh, distinctive sound. I can’t say why, but when I first heard the name, I was expecting prog rock–Dream Theatre or something like that. I wasn’t expecting All Things Forgotten, a gorgeous album of cello- and piano-based alt- folk/rock songs featuring Deanna Wells’ clarion lead vocals, beautiful ensemble harmonies and a healthy and eclectic melting pot of stylistic influences including Brazilian jazz, Gregorian chant, and many more, all sparkling around the edges of the songs like diamonds around a wedding band.

Floorshime Zipper Boots:

Quite a lovely review of our album:
“All Things Forgotten is the new album from Hamilton, Ontario’s Ophelia Syndrome. The album mixes influences from freak folk, pop, indie, jazz and country into a beautiful basket of flowering tracks. The arrangements are lush, the vocals are stunning and the production is flawless. This is a band with depth, chops and much to say musically. Stream and buy All Things Forgotten at the link below.”

Thank-you so much Floorshime Zipper Boots!

Some nice reviews:

Hanus TV: “…Ophelia Syndrome approached All Things Forgotten as a chance to reinvent their experimental sound to deliver a truly memorable album…”

La Mazmorra: “…All Things Forgotten, un álbum de exquisito buen gusto y con una enorme variedad de sonidos, combinando elementos de rock o pop con otros más cercanos al folk e incluso al jazz…”

Lito Music: (Translated) “‘All Things Forgotten’, an album of exquisite taste and a huge variety of sounds, combining elements rock or pop with others closer to folk and even jazz. If we add a very elaborate instrumentation and rich vocal harmonies details and absolutely delicious, the result can not be better.”

On Earbuddy: First Listen: “ The band just released their new album, All Things Forgotten, that front-woman Deanna describes as vivid memories. Quite frequently I comment on how horrible my memory is, and these songs are little snapshots of moments and thoughts that I might have forgotten otherwise. At some point everything blurs together, you can only hope for some clarity in the chaos.”

Muruch: “Ophelia Syndrome are offering their pretty ballad “Passing Time” as a free, legal download via the widget below. The song is from their new album, All Things Forgotten. Their mellow, indie sound reminds me a little of ’90s femme-fronted bands like The Cranberries, The Sundays and/or 10,000 Maniacs.”

Here on write. click. cook. listen. you will find a delicious recipe for Lentil Burgers, and also a post about our album. Food and OS, yum!

Another nice little post about our album on Best in New Music.

Believer Interview: Laura talks about curiosity and creativity

Posted on March 15, 2012 10:42

Laura, Believer, 26, Italy

From curiosity to creativity
I joined SAB out of curiosity to follow Second Person after watching one of their videos online. Before that, I hadn’t even realized that music can be so much more than just the regular mainstream songs that everybody knows. You know, I grew up in Italy listening to Rod Stewart, because my Mom likes him. And I am surrounded by Italian pop music which I usually don’t like too much. But now I’m happy to have my musical horizon wider by exploring artists here! And I started to be creative myself: I posted some “one-picture-videos” on my YouTube channel (username newLucypupy), with the songs of artists I found on Sellaband to support the artists I invested in. I did it for my own pleasure, but also to be useful to spread these artists’ works!
It HAS to be personal!
Whenever I receive a personal „thank you“ (and this happens almost always), I feel like it’s not only about money here! I mean, for my birthday, I received the wishes from some of the artists I supported, and that really made my day! And when I receive signed copies of albums, to me, those signatures, e.g. of Ophelia Syndrome or Fleur Jack, are totally precious and worthy and make me feel like “Wow, I have an autograph of an artist I like, and that’s very very very cool!!!!” And well, when I won the iPod in Angie Arsenault’s contest, I was like “I can’t believe it’s really happening to me!”.
But there is one further thing: Through SAB I got to know two believers with which I started a regular e-mail-correspondence talking about music, but also sharing episodes of our lives. So it’s like I found two friends thanks to our common interest for the music and SAB which I hope can regain the faith and the attention of lots of people.

“Today” song of the week!

Thank-you to everyone who voted for “Today” making it this week’s song of the week on: Talentcast :)

TalentCast Song Of The Week – Ophelia Syndrome “Today”

Posted onFebruary 29, 2012 16:57
The new Song of the Week on TalentCast  is “Today” from the Sellaband-funded album of Ophelia Syndrome, a band from Canada which is coming to tour Europe this summer!
Ophelia Syndrome was started by Trina Nadeau (cello) and Deanna Wells (vocals, keyboards) in 2002. In 2007, it was joined by Adrian McFarlane and Josh Kohler, who completed the sound with drums, bass and backing vocals. The band soon created their own sound – a melancholically hypnotising blend of rock, folk, pop and jazz with powerful, emotional vocals of Deanna.
The band debuted with “Shades of Grey”, an EP recorded at Catherine North Studios in 2008 and released in 2009. The EP spent 4 weeks on C101 Top 30. Ophelia Syndrome started performing regularly in Hamilton, Oakville and Toronto, they also toured the rest of Canada. Encouraged by the success of “Shades of Grey”, Ophelia Syndrome decided to try to get their first full album funded by fans and they signed up on Sellaband in the autumn of 2009. In a little over a year, they raised 11 900 € and a year later “All Things Forgotten”, an 11-track album, was released to their fans from all over the world.
The band returned to Sellaband for another round, this time to fund the promotion of the album. Also the second time, the funding was successful and Ophelia Syndrome could plan a European tour. In August, they will arrive in the Netherlands to play a number of shows and they will also perform once in Germany. The details of the tour can be found on their website

T.O. Snob’s Music review

A very nice review of our album:

All Things Forgotten is the debut full length album from Hamilton, ON quintet Ophelia Syndrome, a band who take their name from a popular a condition where you fall in love with a mad Danish prince and then drown ‘accidentally’.

The record, fully funded by fans, combines traditional rock and jazz foundations and layers cello, lap steel guitar, keyboards and more over top.  Add in gorgeous vocals and you have a warm sound that is both dynamic and lush. I wish I had heard it a little sooner.  If I had it may very well have squeaked into my Best Canadian Albums of 2011 list.
Thank-you T.O. Snob’s Music :)

New Video directed by Mavskegg for “Shades of Grey”.
